The hands get the central position in the wooden Ark curtains, instead of the more customary patterns of the Torah crown, the text dedication and the lions. These hand patterns evoke historical associations from jewish visual culture as a symbol of blessing, abundance and prayer. The combination of hands and nails directs attention to the crucifixion of Christ, in the attempt to explore the relationship between Christian iconography and jewish art.
